FATHER KNOWS BEST

by Billie Miller

When it came time for me to get full custody of my daughter, I was afraid. I
didn’t know anything about raising a child, especially raising a girl. The fear of
failure was causing me to procrastinate. The fear of not raising her right was
hindering me from moving. Time was steady going by and the situation was
not changing. I was hesitating because I felt that I wasn’t equipped enough to be
a single father. I was hesitating because of the fear of making mistakes. But I got some good advice and encouragement from close family members and friends. Advice like, “You keep worrying about how you’re going to raise and
support her. You just need to start. Nothing’s going to happen until you start…”

I knew I needed to take action. Though I got good advice from friends and
family, I had to get in the presence o f Go d . Why? No one knows more
about a product than the inventor or creator of that product. Wo u l d y o u g o t o McDonald’s and ask them about Burger Ki n g ’s Wh o p p e r ? Would you go to Ford and ask them about Toyota’s vehicles? Of course not! If anybody knows
anything about a product, it would be the creator of it. Likewise, God created
fatherhood. So if anyone knows about fatherhood it would be God the Father, the Creator of it. Not the talk shows, not the soap operas, not your therapist, but God. I prayed to God and asked Him, “Teach me to be a father to my child the way that You are a Father to me.” I wanted ‘The Father’ to teach me how to be a godly father. A godly father is one who takes on the characteristics and qualities that he learned from God. Godly fathers raise their kids up to be
godly children.

As a result of me finally taking action, God answered my prayer. As I stepped out, He stepped with me. He showed me and continues to show me how to be a godly f a the r. Tha t ’s w h e n a statement that I’ve heard for years came
alive inside of me, “It takes a village to raise a child”. As I stepped out in faith, God presented me with the provision and information that I needed to get results. You see, God has provision for you that will not show up until you start.
When the student is ready to learn, the teacher will show up. When you leap
out in faith, provision will catch you. Some things are just waiting on you to start. God is already in your future now. He’s just waiting on you to begin. Through prayer, the information, and the support of friends and family, I got manifestation of what I believed God for. Raising her is not as bad as I thought
either. God has blessed me to be a godly father with a successful Christian family.

My daughter’s growing up to be a wise and beautiful young woman. And boy
did the village show up! People helped with school. People helped do her hair.
People helped buy her clothes. People bought school supplies. People watched
her while I worked on the weekends. But all of that provision would not have
shown up if I didn’t start. The provision was waiting on me to take action.
When you move, God will move.
