Getting with the Plan

By Jackye Morrisey

getting with the planHave you ever played a team sport, before, such as volleyball, basketball or hockey? If so, you were, probably, challenged, at some point during your athletic exploits to learn how to understand plans and how to execute plays. As a member of the team, your job was, probably, not to write plays, but at the very least, you were expected to understand them.
Ironically enough, we’re required to run plays and execute plans throughout the course of our lives. Our Heavenly Father has taken on the role as our coach and for each of us, He has, skillfully, mapped out a plan. “For I know the plans that I have for you, saith the Lord. They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope (Jer.29:10-11).”
Over the years, these well-known verses have provided me with sense of inspiration and great comfort. They remind me of the fact that even on my lowest of lowest days, God maintains for me a plan of success. According to His word, He “knew me before He formed me (Jer.1:5) and I was “predestined according to His purpose (Eph. 1:11).” With that, I’m assured that when I’m high up on the mountaintop, God has a plan for me, and on those days when I’m low down in the valley, He still has a plan for me.
As Christians, failure and mediocrity have no place in our lives. We were pre-wired to excel and pre-engineered to succeed. We can’t afford to get distracted by our circumstances or become disillusioned by our fears. Our lives were meant to be rich and bountiful and, to this end, our plans were devised and written. That’s why problems don’t break us and disappointments don’t destroy us. We are rooted and grounded in Christ and our strength and abilities lie within Him.
One final thought. God is deliberate in His actions and in the steps He takes towards our lives. With Him as our guide, we don’t have to write, orchestrate, manipulate or plan. Our destiny is set and success is at our threshold. He has assured us that He has a plan for our lives, and His assurance is really all that we need. When we make plans for ourselves, they will, likely, fail, but God’s plans will, always, succeed. The sooner we get with His plan for our lives, the better our lives will be.
