A few years ago, I received a phone call from a friend name Kim. Kim, who was pregnant at the time, asked me a very important question. She asked me, “How can I be a godly mother?” This is an awesome question, because Kim didn’t want to raise her child with only limited knowledge. She didn’t want to raise her child using the negative things that she learned from her mother. She didn’t want to raise her child based on her friends and family’s opinion. Her desire was to raise her child based on the Word of God. She wants to raise her child the way God would raise her. Kim had enough wisdom to know that this is the best thing that she could do for her daughter. Therefore, I got her some information and material that I believe will lead her into the lifestyle of being a Godly Mother.
There are many qualities of a Godly Mother, but today I want to talk about the eyes of a Godly Mother – Godly Mother’s See the Potential in Their Children. What is potential? The word ‘potential’ means who you are, but haven’t yet become; all you can be, even if you don’t know it yet; the promise before it manifests. Godly mothers recognize the potential in their children. They know who their children are and what they can do even if the child doesn’t. Mary, Jesus’ mother, knew the potential in Him. Mary, Jesus, and His disciples were at a wedding (John 2:1-11). During the wedding they ran out of wine. Mary knew that Jesus could meet people’s needs. Mary knew Jesus’ potential. Mary knew who Jesus was and what He came to do. Therefore, she approached Jesus and said, “They have no wine.” And Jesus basically told her, “What does this have to do with Me? It’s not My time yet.” Then Mary, not responding to Jesus’ statement, turned straight to the servants and said, “Whatever Jesus says to you, do it.” The servants went to Jesus, He gave them some instructions, and Jesus turned water into wine. And that wine was better than the wine that they had at the beginning of the wedding. This was the beginning of the signs that Jesus did. Do you see the important role that Mary played? Jesus didn’t think that He was ready yet, but Mary pulled it out of Him. She pulled out His potential; that untapped power; that unreleased energy. Mary was there at the beginning and she was there at the end. She was there the whole time being a Godly Mother to Jesus. As a Goldy Mother, you have to do the same. Godly Mother’s pull out the potential and untapped power of their children and grandchildren. Every child has potential and purpose in their heart, but a Godly Mother will cause that dream, that purpose, and that potential to become a reality (Proverbs 20:5).
