FEED THE WORLD

Only six years old (with a heart of gold) my daughter, Abbigail Liberty Simpson, felt one day that there were a lot of people in the world that didn’t have enough food. In Abbigail’s own words, “ I want to feed the world!” She asked me if she could plant a garden for the world. I told her “yes, but we don’t have the land.” So Abbigail asked her Assistant Principal Mrs. Cribbs at Bradley Creek School and she agreed.

So our family plowed the land at the school by hand with rakes and shovels. (Mom, Dad, Abbigail and her brother Justus) It took us four hours but it was fun. We took a soil sample and it was sent to the N.C. State University. Abbigail bought seeds for all her friends in four kindergarten classes. In Feb. Abbigail picked parents to help us plant these seeds with each class. We wanted to go green so we used sticks from trees to make markers for all the plants. We also use all kinds of organic products to ward off animals and garden pests. In March we planted our vegetable plants in the garden. We planted carrots, corn, cabbage, cucumbers, green peppers, onions, potatoes, green beans, squash, radishes, banana, peppers, spinach, pumpkins, tomatoes, and one lonely strawberry bush. A hand-made recycled scarecrow I made guards all our hard work! Abbigail’s and friends vegetables will go to two churches, Jesus Ministries and Salvation Army in Wilmington,NC, and family’s from the community.
Thanks to all the kindergarten teachers, parents, and school. Her father and I are very proud of her wanting to make a difference in someone else’s life. I hope your readers will be inspired by Abbigail and enjoy her story. Thank you, Amy & Gary Simpson.
